Building Confidence for Anxious and Reactive Dogs

Living with an anxious or reactive dog can be challenging - for both you and your dog.

Anxiety and reactivity training is my speciality and a particular area of focus for InSynch Pet Services.

Anxious & Reactive Dogs

I take a calm, compassionate and individual approach to understanding what is driving your dog’s behaviour, because every dog and every situation is different.

Living with an anxious or reactive dog can be difficult and, at times, overwhelming for both you and your dog.  Working with anxious and reactive dogs is my speciality and a key focus of InSync Pet Services.  I have lived experience in this field and have completed courses, such as the Advanced Certificate in Reactive Dogs and Aggression in Dogs Masterclass.  I take a calm, understanding and personalised approach, working with you to uncover the reasons behind your dog’s behaviour and develop practical strategies that suit both you and your dog.

Whether your dog reacts to other dogs, people, noises, unfamiliar environments or specific situations, my goal isn’t simply to stop the behaviour.  We work together to understand why your dog is struggling.  We identify their triggers, develop practical strategies and build your dog’s skills and confidence at a pace that they can learn.

Training is tailored to your individual dog and your lifestyle, focusing on positive experiences and strengthening the relationship between you and your dog.  With patience, consistency and the right support, anxious and reactive dogs can learn to feel safer, more confident and better equipped to navigate the world around them.

Example of Unwanted Behaviours:

  • At home

    • Barking, lunging, hiding, unable to settle in the presence of guests or specific people, making it challenging to have guests visit.

    • Barking excessively, triggers include people and dogs moving past your property, delivery drivers, guests and sounds in their environment.

  • Away from the home

    • Barking, lunging, staring or freezing at other dogs, dogs behind fences and/or people when on lead, making it stressful and difficult to walk them.

    • Triggers include dogs behind fences, other dogs on leashes, people, traffic, bikes, or unfamiliar stimuli in the environment.

Sessions can take place in a variety of familiar locations, including your home and local area.  If your dog is already under the care of a veterinary behaviourist, we can collaborate with them, working alongside them to support your dog’s behaviour modification program in a gentle and consistent way.

Please contact me if your dog’s anxiety or reactivity is making everyday life difficult, I can help you understand what’s happening and develop a practical plan forward.
